Last September some of our fifth graders and other students from PPPCS were invited on a tour of The White House Garden. Michelle Obama has just released her new book on eating healthy and our students are shown on the tour! Go out and buy the book today!

PPPCS Baseball Team poses with the Babe Ruth Statue outside of Camden Yards The fifth grade baseball team took to the field for the first time this season on Tuesday evening. Although they lost to Highlandtown 12-9 they had many big plays. Citlalli Islas was given the game ball for the "Player of the Game". On Wednesday the team walked to Camden Yards to watch the Orioles take on the Boston Red Sox. What an exciting way to spend the day with friends and learn more about the game of baseball! Come out next Tuesday and support our team! Students learn about canons used during the Civil War from Mr. Richards. For the last five years Patterson Park students have been lucky enough to have David Richards as our tour guide of Gettysburg National Park. Mr. Richards brings the battle "to life" for adults and children alike. Thanks to his amazing tours our students have an amazing understanding of the hardships soldiers went through to preserve the Union and end slavery in our country. Tour of U.S. Capitol We will be going on our final field trip on Tuesday, June 5th. We always end the 5th grade year with a tour of the National Mall. We start the day at the Lincoln Memorial and end at the U.S. Capitol Building. Along the way we stop at the Smithonsian Museum of American History where we learn about all the different eras of American history in one place! There are many amazing artifacts there including George Washington's uniform, the desk that Robert E. Lee signed signed the surrender papers at the end of the Civil War, and the last Huey Helicopter flown in Vietnam. What a fantastic day in Fells Point! Students not only got a personal tour of the ship and its helicopters but they were able to learn a little about the Japanese culture, as well! Afterwards we walked to the Korean War Memorial on The Canton Waterfront where we learned a little abou the Korean War before we relaxed with friends. Last week we went on three very exciting field trips based on the Civil War. The Pratt St. Riots, Antietam Battlefield, and Gettysburg Battlefield trips were very exciting! Students conducted both history and science research on all of their trips. Click on the Photos tab to see what we did! We are also looking forward to a personal tour of the Japanese Destroyer which will be at the Broadway Pier this Friday.
